RCMP apprehend suicidal male

Sunshine Coast RCMP responded by police boat to a report of a suicidal male on Gambier Island Aug. 16, shortly after 1 p.m.

According to Cpl. Steve Chubey, the 25-year-old man had retrieved a knife after an altercation with his parents and had locked himself in his room.

"Police were not initially contacted, however were contacted several hours later after the male was observed to be unresponsive by his parents from the bedroom window," said Chubey. "Police attended and were able to gain entry to the room, where the male was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. The male sustained superficial self-inflicted injuries to his wrist and was subsequently admitted to St. Mary's Hospital psychiatric unit."
