Serendipity Preschool in Madeira Park is tucked away next to the Pender Harbour reading centre, Art Gallery and School of Music. It's a pleasant spot, next to the marina and across the street from the elementary school. Not everyone knows that it also offers an outdoor playground for younger children. "It's open to everyone in the community - visitors and locals," says Gwen Walwyn, the preschool's teacher. "As long as no programs are in session, all families with younger children are welcome to use it." But the existing playground has seen many little feet and hands over the years. It's getting older and it's not as safe as it used to be.All that is changing, thanks to a team of dedicated preschool parents and staff, headed by Jodee Young, and the financial support of the Vancouver Foundation, the B.C. Gaming Foundation and a number of major sponsors in the community, including the Sunshine Coast Credit Union, KR Enterprises, Indian Isle Contracting, BA Blacktop, Steve Boyd Trucking, Midway Power, Bonnie Murray Accounting and Eric Stephan. A beautiful new playground is being delivered to the Serendipity Preschool in mid-June. If all goes well with the installation, the playground should be full of happy kids by June 22."There's been so much work done in Madeira Park to make it a beautiful place that we wanted to be able to give something back to the community too," says Walwyn. "What we most want to accomplish is to give young children a safe and fun place to be in Pender Harbour. We hope everyone in the community will come and see the results."
