Power and Sail Squadron wraps up another year

The Pender Harbour Power and Sail Squadron have just wound up a very successful and enjoyable season of boating with the Poker Cruise.

The Pender Harbour Power and Sail Squadron have just wound up a very successful and enjoyable season of boating with the Poker Cruise.

Members and friends enjoyed wonderful fall weather as the boats went from station to station in Pender Harbour picking up cards for a poker hand. They then went to the Lions' Hall in Kleindale for a delicious moose stew provided and cooked by social conveners Harry and Maureen Luck. An evening of fun ensued as the poker hands were opened and compared.

The annual cruise to Newcastle Island in September was well attended despite inclement weather, which put to test several aspects of safe boating taught by the squadron in its courses. As usual, the social side was lots of fun, with the barbecue ashore on the island, our Friday night visit to the Dinghy Dock Pub, shopping in Nanaimo and long walks ashore in between. To become a member of this large and lively group of boaters, it is necessary to pass the boating course offered by the squadron with members voluntarily giving their time to teach the public the elements of safe boating, our main mandate. The next course in Pender Harbour will start in January 2005. It consists of 12 instructional sessions and one final examination session to be held on Monday evenings at Pender Harbour Secondary School (PHSS) from 7 to 9 p.m., starting Jan. 10. Registration is on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. at PHSS. Cost is $195 per person or $295 per couple. For more information, call Eric Dodd at 604-883-0568 or Jo Benjafield at 604-883-1108.
