Sunshine Coast RCMP are advising residents of an overpayment fraud scheme currently circulating on the Sunshine Coast.
According to Const. Carmen Hill, residents that have homes for sale on the Internet site Craigslist, are being targeted by suspects who identify themselves as Dr. Gerald Stoikov and Todd Baylis. The suspects advise the seller that they want to purchase their home and then send a cheque by UPS that is approximately $60,000 over the agreed sale price, requesting that the overpayment be sent back to the suspect. The cheques passed, are fraudulent and have been stolen and copied from the company 'Sentry Select Capital Inc.'
The RCMP would like to remind residents that if they suspect they might have been the target of a fraudulent scheme, that they can report information to PhoneBusters via their toll free number at 1-888-495-8501 or at www.phonebusters.com.
