The resident answered his cellphone and spoke with a scammer purporting to be a bank employee and she quoted the last four digits of the resident’s credit card before saying the card had been compromised and the bank needed to confirm his information. The scammer then transferred the resident to her supervisor who then asked a number of questions similar to the kinds of questions an actual bank might ask a client. While on hold with the supervisor the resident grew suspicious, called his bank using the number on the back of his credit card and confirmed that the first caller and supervisor were fraudulent. The resident hung up on the scammers and learned from his actual bank representative that several new charges from around the world had appeared on his card. These charges were reversed, the cards were cancelled, and the matter is being investigated internally. Police advised the resident to contact a credit monitoring company.
