Police Report: Excavator stolen from job site in Roberts Creek

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Oct. 11 to 18: On Oct. 18, Sunshine Coast RCMP were alerted that a John Deere excavator had been stolen overnight from a job site on Malcolm Creek Road in Roberts Creek.

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Oct. 11 to 18:

On Oct. 18, Sunshine Coast RCMP were alerted that a John Deere excavator had been stolen overnight from a job site on Malcolm Creek Road in Roberts Creek. If anyone has seen the excavator, please call Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266.

Theft

• Sometime between Oct. 9 and 11, a suspect used a crow bar in an attempt to break into community mailboxes located at the intersection of Donley Drive and Highway 101, Madeira Park. No actual entry was gained so no mail is believed to have been stolen, but the back of the mailbox was damaged. Anyone with any information about this incident, or any of the Canada Post mailbox break-ins up and down the Coast, is asked to contact RCMP. • Sometime between Oct. 13 and 15, a suspect stole two silver Schwinn brand off-road bikes from a residence in the 5800 block of Tsulich Drive, Sechelt. The bikes had fat tires and were identical. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-7008.

• On Oct. 17, a theft from the bike storage box at the BC Ferries Terminal in Langdale was reported. It is unknown how the suspect gained access to the locked space. The stolen bike is described as a B-Twin touring road bike with front and back saddle bags, and a Brooks seat. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-7039.

• Overnight on Oct. 17, a suspect stole a Power Pulse car battery charger and accessory from a residence in the 700 block of School Road, Gibsons. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-7043.

Collision

• On Oct. 12, police attended a three-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near the Roberts Creek Provincial Campground after the first vehicle attempted to pass two other vehicles heading east up Rat Portage Hill, hydroplaned and struck the second vehicle which sent it colliding with the third vehicle. Fortunately, though two parties were taken to Sechelt Hospital for assessment and treatment, no life-threatening injuries were reported. The file has been referred to ICBC.

Break & Enter

• On Oct. 13, a resident reported a theft from their apartment in the 5600 block of Inlet Avenue, Sechelt, at around 2 p.m., while the resident left their unlocked unit for a brief period. The resident returned to their unit to find the door ajar and a sum of cash missing from inside. No other theft or damage to property was reported.

Mischief

• On Oct. 8 at 4:45 p.m., a burgundy GMC pickup truck was caught on security camera committing mischief inside a car wash bay at Splash and Shine in the 5600 block of Inlet Avenue, Sechelt. The driver, a heavy-set male with dark short hair, appeared to wrap the washer hose and wand around the vehicle before driving away, pulling the equipment from the ceiling fixture in the process. The suspect vehicle had a fixed job box, a large sheet of plywood in the truck bed, and a broken driver’s side brake light. The suspect was wearing a red hoodie sweatshirt that had a large white logo on the back. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-7003.

Property Found

• On Oct. 12, a Nova Scotia birth certificate found in the 5900 block of Reef Road, Sechelt, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days. Please reference police file 2021-6946.

• On Oct. 13, a piece of camping equipment found in the 5600 block of Trail Avenue, Sechelt, was turned in. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference police file 2021-6957.

• On Oct. 18, a pouch containing vehicle documents and a foreign passport was found in the 700 block of Park Road, Gibsons. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference police file 2021-7059.

Impaired Driving

• On Oct. 12, a witness reported a possible impaired driver in the 5500 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. The witness was able to provide a vehicle and driver description as well as a vehicle plate number. Police located the suspect vehicle nearby and noted the lone driver and occupant exhibiting signs of possible intoxication from alcohol. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test and after two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and their vehicle was impounded for 30 days. As the driver was unable to produce their driver’s licence, they were also issued a violation ticket for failing to present licence. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
