Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for March 26 to April 2:
Collisions
• On March 27, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 8100 block of Highway 101, Halfmoon Bay, after Emergency Health Services reported assisting four occupants out of an overturned vehicle. The driver, who was not impaired, advised that the rear of the vehicle lost control on the roadway and that the vehicle struck the cement barricade before flipping over. This account was corroborated by a witness who noted water on the roadway that may have been a contributing factor. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, but the vehicle was towed from the scene. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• On March 29, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Highway 101 at Flume Road, Roberts Creek after an eastbound vehicle lost control and swerved off the road into a tree before landing upside-down at the bottom of an embankment. Fortunately, the driver (the lone occupant), who was not impaired, was able to exit the vehicle on her own and was taken to hospital for minor injuries. She advised that the vehicle in front of her stopped behind a second vehicle that was stopped to enter a driveway and, unable to stop in time, she swerved to avoid a collision. This account was corroborated by several witnesses. The driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care.
• On March 29, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Highway 101 at Pell Road, Roberts Creek, after a passerby advised seeing a vehicle in the ditch. Police located the uninjured driver standing roadside by his vehicle. The driver advised he recalled feeling suddenly quite tired and believes he must have passed out. He woke up to find himself driving down the ditch towards oncoming traffic. The vehicle, which appeared to be undamaged, was towed from the scene and the driver was taken to Sechelt Hospital for assessment. A medical driver’s licence review has been requested from RoadSafetyBC.

Hit and Run Collision
• On March 28, a witness reported a hit and run at a parking lot in the 900 block of Venture Way, Gibsons, after the suspect vehicle was seen reversing hard into an occupied parked vehicle. The suspect vehicle then pulled away and not having clear room to drive away, backed up and struck the parked vehicle a second time before fleeing east on Gibsons Way. The driver of the parked vehicle, who had exited in an attempt to speak with the suspect driver, was unharmed, but the passenger still inside the vehicle was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Police located the suspect vehicle at the registered owner’s address and noted the damage to its rear, but are still looking for the driver. The file is still under investigation.
Theft from Vehicles
• Overnight on March 29, a suspect attempted to gain entry to a vehicle parked in the 5800 block of Medusa Street, Sechelt, by using a screwdriver to pry open the driver’s side door, damaging the vehicle in the process. However, it appears the suspect was scared away by a barking dog and a motion detector light, so no actual theft occurred.
• Overnight on March 29, a suspect gained entry to a vehicle parked in the 5700 block of Mermaid Street, Sechelt, by smashing out a passenger window and prying off a door lock and handle. The suspect stole some spare change, a coder box and a box of pens.
