Incident Report for
June 9 to 16:
Bears
• On June 15, RCMP assisted two tourists who felt trapped on a trail by a mother bear and two cubs. The tourists were unable to accurately provide their location. They were concerned about trying to pass the bears, which were off to the side of the trail. The Conservation Officer Service was also notified. Police checked all the parks in the area and eventually located the tourists, a little shaken but safe and sound, on Dusty Road in Sechelt.
Break and enter / Property
• Sometime between June 10 and 13, a thief cut through a fence at a business in the 5600 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt, and stole approximately 30 used car batteries that were from many different manufacturers. Police are reviewing video surveillance footage. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 16-3543.
• On June 9, cleaning staff at an address in the 200 bock of Gower Point Road inadvertently put cleaning equipment in the back of the wrong car, which was the same make and model as the cleaner’s. If anyone has found a brown flexible hose and a long silver metal pipe belonging to a Filter Queen vacuum cleaner in the back of their vehicle, please contact the RCMP, reference file 16-3548.
• Overnight on June 16, a thief broke in to a building in the 1000 block of Gibsons Way and stole a newer model Dewalt 12-inch mitre saw and a Dewalt 15-gallon air compressor. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 16-3600.
Thefts
• Overnight on June 15, a thief stole a vehicle from an address in the 600 block of Wyngaert Road, Gibsons. The owner had possession of all keys but the vehicle was left unlocked. The stolen vehicle was later recovered in Wilson Creek after a resident reported a suspicious vehicle that had been left idling for hours in front of his house. The file is still under investigation.
• Overnight on June 15, a thief gained access to a number of unlocked vehicles in the 4900 block of Geer Road and 4900 block of Highway 101, Davis Bay, and stole a variety of items including wallets, loose change, a large number of CDs, and several Hungarian music cassette tapes. No damage to any vehicles was reported and no other thefts were reported. Anyone with any information about these thefts is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 16-3562.
• On June 15, police attended a theft at a business in the 4300 block of Highway 101, Wilson Creek, after the suspect fled the premises with a basket full of stolen goods. The suspect, described as a 40-something male approximately three hundred pounds wearing a white shirt, black track suit and a Red Wings hat, drove away in a vehicle with no rear licence plate and an unknown female passenger.
