RCMP

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 11 to 18:

Shots heard

•Around 10:30 p.m. on April 14, police received a report that a possible gunshot had been heard in the 800 block of Gibsons Way. Police patrolled the neighbourhood and spoke with people in the area, but did not find evidence to confirm that a gun had been discharged. The following night, just after 11:30 p.m., a resident on Glassford Road in Gibsons also called to report hearing what sounded like a single gunshot, but again no further evidence was found. Anyone with further information about these occurrences is encouraged to call Sunshine Coast RCMP.

Fisheries Act

•On the morning of April 18, an officer patrolling in Davis Bay noticed a crab trap attached to the pier without any identification markings on it. The trap, which did not have any crabs in it, was seized. Anyone putting out a crab trap must label a floating tag or buoy with their name on it, and follow all other regulations as set out by the Fisheries Act.

Mischief / Property

•On April 12, a thief stole a small black suitcase that had been placed in the baggage rack at the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal for the Langdale-bound ferry. The black suitcase had wheels and contained clothing, cosmetics and manicurist supplies. The file is still under investigation.

•During the evening of April 12, an older 14-foot fiberglass boat, with fishing gear and lumber aboard, drifted up onto a property off Francis Peninsula Road, near Gerrans Bay in the Madeira Park area. The Receiver of Wrecks has since been notified. The owner of the boat can contact Sunshine Coast RCMP for more information.

•Two excavators parked near Tita Way in Sechelt were damaged after someone threw rocks through their windows overnight on April 17 - 18. Total damage is estimated at around $4,000. The RCMP’s Integrated Forensic Identification Section travelled from the Lower Mainland to examine the excavators, and found evidence that may help to identify the person or persons responsible. Anyone with more information can contact Sunshine Coast RCMP or Crimestoppers (1-800-222-TIPS).

Impaired collision

•Around 3:30 p.m. on April 14, emergency services attended a marina in the Garden Bay area after receiving a report of a single-vehicle collision. Police arrived to find that a stop sign had been driven over, a mailbox had been damaged, and damage had also been caused to a building at the marina. A 57-year-old male from Garden Bay was still sitting behind the wheel of the vehicle that caused all the damage, complete with clumps of grass under the front bumper. He had an odour of liquor on his breath, failed two roadside screening tests and received a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition.

Excessive speed

• On the morning of April 17, an officer observed a vehicle driving down the Langdale Bypass at speeds of up to 160 km/hr. The driver had apparently been trying to make the ferry, which had already loaded. The driver also had an odour of liquor on his breath and was given a roadside screening test. He received a 24-hour driving prohibition in addition to a speeding ticket.
