Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Feb. 1 to 8:
Disturbance
•RCMP were called on Feb. 8 by a resident of Keats Island, after she became concerned about ongoing yelling from a male camping on the island. Police attended Keats Island and found two males and a female – all from Vancouver – who had been staying on Keats Island. They stated that the arguments stemmed from one of the males not doing his share of the camping chores. The female and one of the males were transported off the island by police, while the other male remained to pack up the camping gear.
Break and enter
•Between Feb. 1 and 2, a thief gained entrance to a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, through a rear door and stole cash from two cash trays and three cash boxes. No other theft was reported and there was no damage to the door. Police are reviewing surveillance video footage.
•Between Feb. 5 and 8, a thief broke into a business in the 13800 block of Highway 101, Pender Harbour, and stole a five-gallon bucket and an undetermined number of full bottles of alcohol. The file is still under investigation.
Thefts
•Late on Jan. 27, a thief gained entry to a vehicle parked at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, that had a door left open while the owner was nearby making a phone call. The thief stole an IRULU eXpro tablet with keyboard and pink case. Police are reviewing surveillance video footage.
•On Feb. 2, a thief was caught on security camera stealing a piece of electronic equipment from a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. The suspect is seen taking the item off the shelf and placing it in her purse before leaving the premises without paying. The suspect was located and arrested for theft and the file is still under investigation.
•Sometime between October 2015 and Feb. 2, a thief stole a dirt bike from a property in the 5600 block of Wakefield Road, Sechelt. The bike is described as a well-used green Pantera 100 mini-bike with peeling stickers on it.
•On Feb. 2, staff at a business in the 1100 block of Highway 101, Gibsons, reported a shoplifting incident that was caught on surveillance video a few days earlier. The male suspect was identified and arrested for theft under $5,000. The suspect also confessed to another theft from the same business. The male was released on a promise to appear and has been banned from the business.
•On Feb. 4, a theft of a utility vehicle from a business in the 13800 block of Highway 101, Pender Harbour, was reported. The thief removed the Toro Workman MD utility vehicle through a hole cut in a fence along the highway. The model 07279 utility vehicle is black and red in colour. Police are reviewing surveillance camera footage. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 16-657.
• On Feb. 6, a thief stole a staff member’s personal laptop from a business in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt. The suspect was caught on surveillance video removing the black Lenova laptop from a backpack and shoving it inside his jacket before exiting the premises. The male suspect is described as a middle-aged Caucasian; he was wearing a red ski jacket, ball cap and blue jeans.
Traffic
•Shortly before 6 a.m. on Feb. 5, Sunshine Coast RCMP, paramedics and the Roberts Creek Fire Department attended a single-vehicle rollover in the 1300 block of Roberts Creek Road. The Fire Department worked to extricate the female driver, who was taken to hospital for minor injuries. The cause of the collision is still unknown.
•On Feb. 5, a single-vehicle incident was reported in the 6800 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, after a northbound vehicle lost control, flipped onto its side and slid into the bushes. Police spoke with the uninjured driver and noted the odour of alcohol. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol a couple of hours prior to driving. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test and issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
•On Feb. 5, police attended a two-vehicle incident in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt, after the vehicles pulled up to the four-way stop intersection and then entered the intersection at the same time and collided into each other. Neither of the drivers reported serious injuries but one of the vehicles had to be towed due to damage. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
