RCMP

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Nov. 9 to 16:

Breaches

• During the night of Nov. 15 to 16, while Sunshine Coast RCMP were checking offenders bound by curfews, police determined two of the offenders were not in their homes as required, and in breach of their conditions. One 30-year-old male is on probation for property crimes, is awaiting disposition on charges of drug possession and trafficking, has outstanding warrants from another province, and is required to maintain a nightly curfew. Another 27-year-old male is on a suspended sentence for assault causing bodily harm, and is also required to maintain a nightly curfew. Police are recommending charges for both men, relating to breaching their court-ordered conditions.

Weapon

• Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 10, a male and female were confronted near the Shell station in Gibsons by three males allegedly brandishing weapons, including an extendable baton. The three males were known to the couple and have all since been arrested and released on promises to appear in court. If you witnessed any part of this incident and have not yet spoken with police, please call Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266.

Thefts / Property / Shoplifting

• Overnight on Nov. 11, a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 4000 block of Browning Road, Sechelt, rummaged through the glove box and stole a pink Kate Spade wallet and a Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bag containing a variety of baby items. Several other reports of unlocked vehicles in the neighbourhood being rummaged through were received, and some small items and loose change were stolen in the process.

• On Nov. 15, a shoplifter was reported at a business in the 4300 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, after staff witnessed the suspect hide a headlamp in her jacket pocket. The staff member attempted to recover the item from the suspect, but the suspect was adamant that she had nothing in her pocket and left the store before police could be called. The suspect is described as a Native female between her mid-30s and 40s and was wearing a grey hoodie with a bright pink TNA logo on it. The stolen headlamp was a purple Black Diamond Revolt model 130-lumen headlamp.

• A reminder to Sunshine Coast residents that the Sechelt, Gibsons and Pender Harbour RCMP offices regularly have found items such as keys and glasses turned in to them. If you have lost such an item, feel free to come by your local office and see whether we have yours.

Mischief

• On Nov. 14, a witness reported two males spray-painting the Canoe Pass bridge on Francis Peninsula Road, Madeira Park. The witness also provided vehicle information for the suspects, including a licence plate. Upon arrival, police located two males covered in spray paint, in possession of equipment and a large number of spray paint cans and nozzles. The males were arrested for mischief. The file is still under investigation.

Collision / Impaired Driver

• On Nov. 13, a witness reported a single-vehicle incident on the corner of Pratt Road and Chaster Road, Gibsons, after a vehicle went into a ditch. The driver was able to exit the vehicle on her own. The witness, who had been following the vehicle, advised that it had been swerving back and forth in its lane and braking constantly before suddenly turning off the road and into the ditch. The driver, who was not impaired, advised she was lost and confused by the lights of oncoming traffic. The driver, who was unlicensed, was issued violation tickets for no driver’s licence and failing to keep right. The vehicle was towed and police have requested a medical review for the driver.

• Early on Nov. 14, police attended a single-vehicle incident at the corner of Trail Avenue and Reed Road, Sechelt, after a vehicle went off road and ended up resting up on a tree. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and an administrative driving prohibition and charges of impaired driving are being recommended.
