Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for the week of Aug. 24 to 31:
Police attended to a business in the 700 block of Gibsons Way after receiving a report of a possible impaired driver. The officer located the vehicle and driverbased on the description given by the complainant and found the driver showing signs of impairment. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol. He was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and his vehicle was towed.
A woman who had reporteda bike stolen last week called police when she spotted a male riding what appeared to be her bike in the area near Burton Road and the Sunshine Coast Highway. The woman provided the address of a house where the bike was and the officer attendinglocated the stolen bike in the yard. Themale told the officer he'd found the bike in a ditch. The bike was confirmed as being the stolen bike (based on a serial number) and was returned to the rightful owner.
Early on Aug. 25, a resident in the 1300 block of Judith Place was awakened by noises outside his house. When he looked outside, he saw two young men crouched behind a neighbour's car. The residentpointed a flashlightat them, and the two men fled. They were described as being in their early 20s; one was wearing a black muscle shirt. Police made patrols but were unable to locate thesubjects of the complaint.Police did, however, locate an unsecured vehicleon Carol Place.
A single vehicle incident occurred in the 6600 block of Sunshine Coast Highway after a southbound vehicle crossed a double solid line and crashed into a northbound ditch, striking a rock culvert. Both the driver and passenger were taken to hospital for minor injuries. A witness stated the vehicle went straight across the highway without braking. The driver, who is on medication, advisedsheblacked out. She was issued a violation ticket for crossing a double solid line.
A shoplifter was caught at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way after a witness alerted staff that the woman had purchased a few items, but also had several unpaid for items in her bag. Store staff located and detained the woman until police arrived. She was arrested for theft under $5,000, and given conditions not to attend the business.
Police received complaints about a trio of Harley Davidson motorcycles speeding, tailgating and driving erratically on the Sunshine Coast Highway westbound from Roberts Creek. A police officer located the three bikers and warned them to watch their speed and to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
Overnight Aug. 25/26, a number of unlocked vehicles in the 800 block of Aurora Way, 700 block of Celestial Place,700 block ofTricklebrook Way, 800 block of Mountainview Driveand700 block of North Road werebroken into and a variety of items were stolen. Awitness reported a group ofyoung maleswho appeared to be going through unlocked vehicles in the 700 block of Celestial Place. Officers made patrols and located a group of youthwho initially appeared not to have any stolen goods on them. However, further investigation revealed the youth had hidden the stolen items.Due to the suspects' ages andlack of criminal history, the matter is being referred to Restorative Justice.
Late on Aug. 27, two separate calls were received reportingthree youthsbreaking in to vehicles in the 700 block Wren Way and 700 block Celestial Place. The callers provided descriptions of the suspects and police located the three near Sunnycrest Mall where theywere detained for investigation. Two of the youth admitted to the thefts, buta third young male was too intoxicated to co-operate. The matter is being considered for Restorative Justice.
A hit and run was reported on Sechelt Inlet Road near Chawilin Avenue after a resident heard what sounded like a motor vehicle incident and discovered autility pole broken in half and wires hanging down to the road. A licence plate and fender left behind by the fleeing driverled police tothe vehicleanddriver shortly afterwards. The uninjured learner driver admitted to consuming alcohol. He was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition, and violation tickets for failing to remain at the scene of an accident and two for driving contrary to restrictions. His heavily damaged vehicle was towed.
Sometime Aug 27/28, thieves broke into unlocked vehicles parked in the 700 block of Brookside Place. The thieves made off with cash, 30 CDs, a tool set, a Canon Powershot A430 and a gold ring with a large octagonal-cut sapphire surrounded by four smaller sapphires. Anyone with any information about these thefts is asked to call RCMP, reference file 10-6905.
Sometime in themorning of Aug. 29, a thief broke into a residence in the 5700 block of Neptune Road. The thief gained entry by breaking a windownear the front door, and stole a 15" Mac Book Pro, a variety of cufflinks and a bottle of white rum.
