Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for the week of Aug. 11 to 18:

A suspected thief stole a vehicle between Aug. 10/11 from the 1300 block of Port Mellon Highway. The vehicle was later recovered in Roberts Creek. The ignition had been ripped out, and the suspect had stolen a Sony CD player and some hand tools from the vehicle.

A driver reported accidently clipping a vehicle parked improperly in the 5500 block of Wharf Road. The driver advised misjudging the distance required to make a right hand turn into a parking lot in the area. A RCMP member attended and determined that the vehicle was parked several inches into the yellow no-parking zone area, thereby hindering any vehicles wishing to turn into the parking lot. No violation ticket was issued. The damage to both vehicles was minor.

Police attended to a motor vehicle incident in the area near Tapp Road and Highway 101, where a vehicle ended up in the southbound ditch. Witness reports indicate the driver of a vehicle travelling southbound, attempted to pass another southbound vehicle that was already in the process of passing a southbound dump truck, and lost control in the opposite lane's shoulder. The vehicle then swerved in front of the two vehicles that were still in the process of passing each other, crossed the lane, flew into the ditch, hit the bottom then bounced back and landed on its side. The driver and one passenger who were both wearing seatbelts, were uninjured. However, two other passengers who were not wearing seatbelts sustained some injuries and were taken to hospital. A violation ticket for driving without due care and attention, and unsafe passing on the left was issued to the driver.

Police, paramedics and Sechelt fire department attended a motor vehicle incident in the 5600 block of Highway 101 on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 12. One vehicle heading north accelerated and crossed the centre line and collided into another vehicle which was driving southbound in the opposite lane. Both vehicles sustained significant damage, airbags were deployed, and both drivers were transported to hospital to be checked out. The driver of the first vehicle was determined to have health issues that may have been a factor in the accident.

Staff at a business in the 4300 block of Sunshine Coast Highway noticed a male trying to remove boxes of goods from the property. When questioned, the male said he found the items there and then fled on foot before more information could be obtained. Police will be reviewing security footage from surveillance cameras.

Police attended to single-vehicle incident on Sechelt Inlet Road near Porpoise Drive after a passerby noticed a vehicle flipped over in the ditch. The lone driver was standing outside the vehicle when police arrived. It was determined the driver showed signs of impairment and was issued a 24-hour driving suspension and violation ticket for driving without due care. The vehicle was towed and the male was transported to St. Mary's Hospital by paramedics for observation.

A witness called in a single-vehicle incident. A motorcycle travelling southbound in the 16000 blk of Highway 101 crossed over into the witness's lane, and went into the bushes on the north side of the highway. The motorcyclist was not excessively speeding, but appeared to lose control on the corner. The passenger on the motorcycle sustained some injuries and was flown to Vancouver General Hospital for treatment. The rider sustained minor injuries. Rider inexperience and unfamiliarity with a new bike are considered factors.
