On May 16 Sunshine Coast RCMP received a report of an injured teenage girl in Sechelt, who alleged an unknown assailant assaulted her.

All available police officers attended to immediately try to find any suspect who may still have been in the area. Police were unable to locate any suspects.

"Sunshine Coast RCMP is putting significant effort into the follow-up investigation, pursuing many different avenues to determine what occurred," said Cpl. Steve Chubey, spokesperson for the detachment.

He indicates that although the investigation is ongoing, at this time police do not have any evidence to indicate a criminal offence has taken place.

"It's unusual for us to make this type of comment, but this is a small community, and I understand some members of the public have expressed concern for their safety," said Chubey. "There is no information at this point to indicate the public is at risk."

Police ask the public to respect the privacy of those involved.
