Dogs in vehicles

• On June 29, police received several complaints about dogs being left in cars unattended. Even though police determined the owners had not been away from their vehicles for long, and that none of the dogs were in distress, due to the extreme heat, witnesses are extra-vigilant in reporting such incidents to police. Both the RCMP and SPCA advise against leaving pets, children, or elderly people in vehicles during the warm weather months, but especially during a heat wave.

Police are attempting to locate the suspect, who is likely known to police, and the file is still under investigation.

Collision

• On July 3, police attended a three-vehicle incident near the intersection of Reed Road and Payne Road, Gibsons, after the first vehicle travelling north on Payne Road, failed to stop at the stop sign, and travelled through, colliding into the second vehicle that was travelling east on Reed Road. The first vehicle then crossed into the westbound lane where it was struck by the third vehicle, which caused the first vehicle to roll into the ditch, flipping over onto its roof. The third vehicle ended up upright in the ditch and the driver was able to exit on his own. The first vehicle driver required the assistance of the Gibsons Volunteer Fire Department to exit her vehicle and was taken to Sechelt Hospital for assessment. No other injuries were reported but the first and third vehicles had to be towed due to damage. No driver impairment is suspected. The file has been referred to ICBC.

• On July 2, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Teredo Street and Trail Avenue, Sechelt, after the first vehicle stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross the street and was rear-ended by the second vehicle.
