Small businesses have the opportunity to nominate themselves to become one of B.C.'s best as the Successful You awards contest is now open for nominations.

The ninth annual Small Business BC Successful You Awards Contest celebrates the top small businesses from across the province.

Entrepreneurs will be awarded in six diverse awards categories for the contributions they make within their own communities and to the greater economy.

This year, Small Business BC is excited to launch two new award categories: best community impact will recognize a business that best demonstrates a positive impact in the community in which they operate and has taken positive action to invest in that community, while best on-line marketer will recognize a business that best demonstrates creativity and customer engagement as well as proven positive results against the measurable goals set for the campaign.

The four other award categories are: best company, best concept, best employer and best green business.

"We're pleased to continue supporting small businesses across BC and recognize them for their outstanding contributions," said Small Business BC CEO, George Hunter. "We look forward to a group of high-caliber nominees this year, and believe the two new award categories will allow for an even greater diversity among nominees."

For the first time this year, the awards will only accept self-nominations. Once nominated, the business owners will be tasked with gaining as many votes as possible through social media, word of mouth, e-mail or any other means possible. Business owners must get creative and get votes.

The nomination and voting period began Oct. 1 and is open until Nov. 30.

The nomination and voting period ends on Nov. 30 and the top 10 highest voted nominees in each category will be announced as finalists on Dec. 13.The top 10 nominees must then submit an application that judges will use to decide the top five finalists from each category, announced on Jan. 30, 2012.

The top five finalists will present a 10-minute pitch to judges.

The winners of each category will be announced at the Successful You Awards Ceremony on Feb. 28 2012, at the Pan Pacific Vancouver.
