While some jokes are floating around today, Environment Canada’s special weather statement for the Sunshine Coast is not one of them.

Gibsons to Earls Cove can expect some heavy rain and perhaps some strong, localized winds starting Sunday morning into Monday morning. Local flooding is possible, the statement warns, and the heaviest rain is expected to hit upslope areas on the lower Coast and Lower Fraser Valley. The rain is expected to ease to showers by Monday morning.

There is a potential for strong, gusty wind across parts of Howe Sound, Metro Vancouver and Abbotsford.

A strong onshore flow will direct a developing storm over the south coast in the later part of the weekend. The alert area includes Gibsons, Sechelt, the Sea to Sky Corridor, the north shore, Tri-Cities area and the Lower Fraser Valley.

More rain and wind warnings may be issued. The public is recommended to monitor alerts and forecasts. Severe weather conditions can be reported to [email protected].
