A search located neither firearms nor ammunition and no charges have been laid in relation to a June 14 incident at the Madeira Park Government wharf, according to a statement released by Sunshine Coast RCMP.
In a June 19 statement, detachment media relations officer Karen Whitby outlined that a report of a male threatening to shoot people from his boat was received June 14 at about 2:45 p.m.
“Witnesses stated they heard the male yelling from his boat and brandishing a hand gun, but not at anyone in particular,” she reported. The release outlined that witnesses to the event were able to provide police with the name and description of the suspect and that those indicated that the male “seemed to be intoxicated or in some type of mental distress."
Seven available front-line police officers travelled to the scene. At 3:20 p.m. nearby Madeira Park Elementary School was notified about the incident. Students had already been dismissed for the day.
Once on scene, officers were in the process of trying to evacuate people from the area when the suspect exited his boat and began walking down the dock yelling and swearing at people in boats nearby. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The release stated that police subsequently forwarded a charge of uttering threats against that individual to Crown counsel. That charge was not approved.
Coast Reporter contacted the Harbour Authority of Pender Harbor's offices, located at the wharf on the day of the event and the individual on duty declined to provide a comment.
