The first baby to be born this year on the Coast arrived at 8 p.m. Jan. 1 at St. Mary's Hospital in Sechelt.
Mikayla Sydney Totten is the daughter of first-time parents Christie and Dean Totten, weighing nine pounds, 11 ounces at birth. Christie, 29, and Dean, 33, have lived in Sechelt for seven years.
"She's happy and healthy," Dean said.
"The staff were amazing and fantastic," Christie said. Dr. Jane Bishop delivered Mikayla.
"We really appreciate her coming in on her day off," Dean said. "Thanks to all the nurses and doctors for having a successful delivery."
