The Area A election has delivered Frank Mauro to the Sunshine Coast Regional District board as representative for Egmont-Pender Harbour.
Preliminary results show Mauro securing 479 votes against Mike Carson's 329 in the race to fill the seat previously held by director Eric Graham. Voter turnout was 37 per cent.
"I'm looking forward to ensuring that my constituents and supporters in Area A are fairly represented at the board," pledged Mauro. "I want to make sure their voices are heard."
For him an important local focus will be ensuring that the character and lifestyle of Pender Harbour is maintained while also working to promote economic growth that is compatible with those aims.
Joining Mauro at the board will be returning incumbents Donna Shugar, Lorne Lewis and Garry Nohr, who were all re-elected to serve another term.
Also present will be Sechelt Indian Government District director Jordan Louie and West Howe Sound director Lee Turnbull, who was acclaimed in the election.
For residents of Elphin-stone, Lewis said he wants to continue his work ensuring that their voice is heard at the regional district.
He said he will work to maintain a face-to-face relationship with his constituents while "working positively with members of the board to try to do the best job we can for the Sunshine Coast as a whole.
"It's never been [about] my goals; it's the community's goals," he stressed.
Armed with another term, Nohr said he was pleased that Halfmoon Bay residents showed their support for his direction.
One of his priorities will be the implementation of the solid waste program. He also said concerns raised by residents during the campaign, like restoring the sockeye salmon to the Clowhom, will not be ignored.
"It's nothing to do with the regional district, but it's a good project, so I'm going to continue on with that on the side," he said.
As director in Roberts Creek, Shugar said she will continue to offer the type of accessibility she feels has impelled residents to give her another mandate.
She plans to use the support to tackle a host of initiatives in Area D and across the Sunshine Coast, including the completion of the Roberts Creek official community plan, zero waste management and tackling greenhouse gas emissions.
"In Roberts Creek, I really want to see us get the community garden off the ground and happening," she added.
The final composition of the board remains to be seen as representatives from new-look councils in Sechelt and Gibsons are yet to be decided. Directors previously holding those positions were defeated in the elections.
The inaugural meeting for the new SCRD board is set for Dec. 8.
