Two years ago Daniel Bolshoy performed a guitar concert, as part of the Pender Harbour Music Society's concert series. That concert is still recalled on the Sunshine Coast with enthusiasm. This charming young man who makes such a strong and intimate connection with his audiences through his playing as well as his introductions, returns Feb. 15 to the Pender Harbour Performance Centre.

Bolshoy was born in Russia, attended school in Israel and came to Canada when he was 17 years old. While an enthusiastic fan of rock music in his teens, it was in Toronto that he developed his love of classical guitar. Bolshoy studied at the University of Toronto and has completed advanced degrees at Denver and Indiana. He currently teaches music at Concordia University in Montreal, which he calls home.

Bolshoy's teaching, performance and recording schedule is exhausting. He has performed in China, Mexico, Israel and venues in North America too numerous to count. He has recorded four CDs, one most recently, Tango Notturno, with Isabel Bayrakdarian. He is frequently heard on CBC radio and has appeared on television in Bravo's The Classical Now series. In addition, he finds time to do outreach and educational concerts for young people. Daniel is an enthusiastic ambassador of classical guitar music and his concerts show it.

Tickets for the 2 p.m. show are $20, available at John Henry's in Garden Bay, Harbour Insurance in Madeira Park, Sechelt Visitors' Centre and Gaia's Fair Trade in Gibsons.
