Sunshine Coast RCMP and the BC Coroner's Service have confirmed the identity of a body found in Gibsons last week to be that of Randy Webb, who was reported missing by family and friends.
Webb was a Gibsons resident who had been missing since late May. A resident out walking his dog found his body on June 30 in the early afternoon in the Inglis Trail area in Gibsons.
Police say foul play is not suspected and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Found remains
In an unrelated case, RCMP are investigating a recovery of possible human remains in the waters off of Gospel Rock.
According to police, a fisherman snagged a beige T-shirt in his fishing line on Saturday, July 2 and when the fishing line was pulled into the boat, several bones fell out of the T-shirt and into the water. One of the bones was caught and turned over to police.
Sgt. Stu Falebrinza said initial investigation has revealed that the bone appears to be human. Police are attempting to retrieve the remaining bones, but Falebrinza said that could be a challenge given where the remaining remains are and whether police are able to pin point the exact location in the water where the discovery was made.
