Traffic was reduced to one lane while Sunshine Coast RCMP investigated a three-vehicle collision that occurred last Thursday night.

On May 9 at approximately 9 p.m., RCMP were dispatched to a report of a three-vehicle collision on Highway 101 near Flume Road.

Cpl. Steve Chubey said fires crews and paramedics were already on scene and traffic was reduced to one lane until the vehicles and debris could be cleared.

"Witnesses reported that all three vehicles had been travelling northbound, when the lead vehicle stopped in traffic in order to make a legal left turn," said Chubey. "The vehicle immediately behind the lead vehicle had stopped; however, the collision occurred when the driver of a third vehicle, who was temporarily distracted, struck the second vehicle from the rear, causing it to hit the turning vehicle."

All three drivers sustained minor injuries, with one driver taken to St. Mary's Hospital for precautionary reasons. The driver of the vehicle who initiated the collision was issued a violation ticket for drive without due care and attention.
