Melamed, Greens launch campaign

Federal election

Green Party supporters from West Vancouver - Sunshine Coast - Sea to Sky Country showed their strength on Thursday, April 16 as Ken Melamed launched his campaign with Green Party Leader Elizabeth May.

The Clubhouse at Gleneagles Golf Course overflowed with approximately 300 motivated Greens, who rallied to raise $30,000 to support Melamed’s campaign.

“It was truly inspiring to see how many people here are refusing to settle for anything less than a Green MP,” May said. “Ken is the only candidate in this riding who can deliver on his promise to put people before party, and that’s what these people are asking for.”

“The other parties have stopped working for us,” Melamed added. “The Greens are the only ones prepared to defend our coast from Kinder Morgan and Woodfibre LNG. We want good local jobs and an innovative energy strategy we can be proud of, not subsidies for offshore billionaires. We want to invest in today’s renewables instead of yesterday’s fossil fuels.”

North Vancouver candidate Claire Martin and Burnaby North - Seymour candidate Lynne Quarmby were featured guests at Melamed’s launch.

“Good things come in threes, and with three star candidates on the North Shore we’re poised to increase our strength in Ottawa,” said Green Party deputy national campaign manager Paul Noble. “That so many people came out to hear from Ken so far in advance of the fixed election date is really promising.”
