Striking District of Sechelt workers represented by the B.C. Government and Service Employees Union (BCGEU) and the District of Sechelt are still in negotiations with the hopes of reaching an agreement soon.

A full day of talks was scheduled for this Thursday, July 11. This session followed a full day session last Thursday, July 4.

The negotiations on July 4 were the first since the District's unionized workers went out on strike June 14.

All the sessions are under a media blackout, so details on what is being discussed or if much progress is being made on a consensus on the issues are not being released by either side.

The BCGEU did, however, release a statement to the media after talks concluded on July 4.

"Your BCGEU bargaining committee is continuing to negotiate with the assistance of a mediator at the Labour Relations Board in Vancouver. The union remains positive a memorandum of settlement with the employer can be reached," said the statement. "Our goal hasn't changed. The union remains willing to reach a renewed agreement and get back to serving the people of Sechelt. Thank you for your continued support during the mediation process."

The District of Sechelt did not provide comment this week.
