Sunshine Coast RCMP say officers responded to a call about a man with a gun at the Friendship Park pier July 20.

People in a nearby boat told police they saw a man on the floating dock attached to the pier shooting into the water, according to Sunshine Coast RCMP Const. Karen Whitby.

Police arrived at the scene around 3:20 p.m. and seized the weapon, which turned out to be a BB gun. The 46-year-old man told the officers he was shooting at fish in the water.

He was given a warning and the officers also followed up with the Conservation Officer Service. The incident did not result in any charges.

Whitby said several witnesses corroborated that the BB gun appeared to look like a black handgun, and that the man did not point the weapon in anyone’s direction.
