A 31-year-old Sechelt man has been sentenced to one year in custody after he pled guilty to sexual assault this week.

John Sullivan appeared in Sechelt provincial court on Wednesday where he entered the plea and was handed down his sentence.

Sunshine Coast RCMP responded to a report of a sexual assault that had occurred on a Sunshine Coast transit bus travelling from Roberts Creek to Sechelt on Monday. As a result of the investigation that followed, Sullivan was arrested later Monday evening.

"The suspect sat down next to a 16-year-old girl on the bus. He grabbed her thigh while touching his own genitals at the same time," said Cpl. Todd Creed. "The bus driver kicked the man off the bus and he was arrested a short while later."

Creed said other than the girl being a bit shaken up, she was unharmed in the incident.

Creed said Sullivan was also charged with breaching his conditions as he was not allowed to drink alcohol as ruled by the court on an unrelated charge. Creed said Sullivan was intoxicated at the time of Monday's assault.
