Man facing assault charge

Sunshine Coast RCMP is recommending a charge of assault causing bodily harm to Crown counsel following an alleged altercation between a Sechelt man and a youth lacrosse coach.

Sunshine Coast RCMP is recommending a charge of assault causing bodily harm to Crown counsel following an alleged altercation between a Sechelt man and a youth lacrosse coach.

According to a news release from RCMP, a 37-year-old man allegedly confronted the coach of a youth lacrosse team on April 15 at the Sunshine Coast Arena in Sechelt over the treatment of his son during a practice.

"The altercation started with pushing and shoving, but quickly escalated when the suspect allegedly punched the coach, causing a large cut to his face," said Cpl. Steve Chubey in a news release. "The suspect was arrested and released on conditions with charges being forwarded to Crown counsel."

Suspect caught in the act

A 42-year-old Gibsons man is in RCMP custody and has been charged after police caught him committing a break and enter in Davis Bay.

According to Sunshine Coast RCMP on April 11 police were in Davis Bay when they heard an audible house alarm sounding in the neighbourhood.

"Police were able to pinpoint the location of the alarm to an address on Whitaker Road, where they observed the suspect leaving the residence," said Cpl. Steve Chubey in a news release. "The suspect was known to police as a prolific property offender and was arrested without incident."

Kenneth Henry Dempster remains in custody and has been charged with break and enter and possessing break-in instruments in relation to the incident.
