A Maple Ridge man is in police custody facing a variety of charges after he allegedly made several threatening phone calls to Coast residents last weekend.

Sunshine Coast RCMP received complaints from two separate households about messages left on their answering machines, which Sgt. Gerry Webb described as being of a vulgar and threatening nature.

"The victims became increasingly fearful of the person making these threats as they continued and appeared to be getting more serious with each message," said Webb. "As police were able to review these incidents, it became clear that the person making these threats was a legitimate danger to these people and to the public."

On Monday morning, police spotted the suspect driving through Sechelt. Officers were able to track his vehicle and stopped him approximately two kilometres south of Sechelt. Webb said after a brief struggle with the suspect, police took him into custody.

Later that day, the suspect, Thomas Bories, appeared in Sechelt provincial court and was charged with several counts of uttering threats and criminal harassment.
