Police arrested a 23-year-old Sechelt man early Sunday morning in connection to an alleged stabbing on Sechelt Indian Band Lands.

Sunshine Coast RCMP responded to a fight in progress call early Sunday morning Sept. 27 on the Sechelt Indian Band lands.

"Upon arrival, a male ran away from police," said Cpl. Kris Josephson. "A foot pursuit ensued in which the male was captured by police a short distance away. Police then discovered that the male was suffering from stab wounds to his chest and lacerations from his skull and had in fact been the victim of an assault."Josephson said he was turned over to paramedics for treatment and was transported to St. Mary's Hospital.

He said the male has since been released from hospital, but required overnight care and treatment for the wounds suffered.

"Further investigation led police to the location of the crime where a 23-year-old adult male was arrested," said Jospehson. "The male was later released from police custody with strict conditions."Police have not named the male suspect. He is scheduled to appear in Sechelt provincial court on Nov. 18.

Further investigation into the incident as well as the reasons why the victim ran from police are continuing according to Josephson.
