Earth Hour

British Columbians saved 117-megawatt hours of electricity and reduced the provincial electricity load by 1.8 per cent during Earth Hour last Saturday night, March 26.

This saving was almost twice as much as the 64-megawatt hours and 1.04 per cent saved last year - and the equivalent of turning off about 7.8 million 15-watt compact fluorescent light bulbs.

The District of Sechelt held a family-event to celebrate Earth Hour in cooperation with the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association and the Sunshine Coast Astronomy Club. BC Hydro has complied a community-by-community breakdown of the reduction of consumption, however, no numbers have been posted regarding the Sunshine Coast.
