Local Liberals lead on transportation and health care

Twelve members of the Powell River Sunshine Coast Riding association attended the B.C. Liberal policy convention May 13 to 14 in Penticton.

Twelve members of the Powell River Sunshine Coast Riding association attended the B.C. Liberal policy convention May 13 to 14 in Penticton. Two of the four resolutions proposed by the riding association passed along with one member being elected to the position of secretary for the B.C. Liberal Party.

The transportation resolution was addressed by Dave Formosa of Powell River. The resolution noted that economic development on the North Island and Powell River - Sunshine Coast is constrained by transportation times to Vancouver and North American markets. It called for the Ministry of Transportation and B.C. Ferries to develop a Vancouver - Sunshine Coast North Island transportation corridor plan that would significantly reduce the travel time between Vancouver, Sunshine Coast and Comox.

Patrick Muncaster of Gibsons addressed the second resolution at the convention. The resolution noted the advances in information technology and human genome research and called for the creation of an office of personalized healthcare. The goal of the office would be to provide leadership that would foster process re-engineering of the health care system and place the individual at the centre.

"I am confident that this riding association will continue to bring forward resolutions that will help the riding and the province meet the 21st century needs of B.C. families," said Muncaster in a news release.

Riding president Kevin Sigouin was also elected secretary to the B.C. Liberal Party.

"It is great to see riding members actively working to better represent the interests of Powell River - Sunshine Coast at the provincial convention," added Sigouin.
