The Gibsons Public Library is getting a new roof. The decision was made at a special board meeting for Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) on July 30.
“We’re happy to have the process moving forward,” library director Tracey Therrien said. “The roof is in need of repairs, so we are happy that it will be fixed.”
Cost estimate option one was approved by all directors except for Ian Winn (West Howe Sound) and Lorne Lewis (Elphinstone), who were opposed.
Option one has an estimated cost of $239,741 and includes roof replacement and soffit repairs. It is expected to last approximately 20 years.
Three other cost estimate options were given at the meeting. Options 2A and 2B were for roof redesigns for a low-pitched roof instead of a flat roof. Their costs were estimated between $500,000 and $700,000, depending on materials.
Option three was for a roof redesign and patio extension that would cost more than $800,000.
The SCRD is on a break until September. A start date for construction has not yet been given, but will be looked at when the board reconvenes next month.
