Lagoon Society presents art project

The Lagoon Society is seeking participation from Sunshine Coast residents of all ages in an exciting new community art project at the Iris Griffith Centre.

The Lagoon Society is seeking participation from Sunshine Coast residents of all ages in an exciting new community art project at the Iris Griffith Centre.

Created by local artist Emily Gray in collaboration with the community, the Living Mural will feature a mosaic of textured terracotta tiles designed as a surface to grow vegetation. Tiles will feature images of coastal expression related to water and the role it plays in our lives and our community. The mural will include three wall panels. Rainwater collected from the roof will funnel water to the plants growing on each wall.

All members of the Sunshine Coast community are invited to submit their expressions on water - anything from poems, stories, memories and thoughts to photographs, paintings, drawings and collages. A cross section of community expressions will be printed permanently onto the tiles. The Living Mural will showcase the integration of plants into architecture and will be a creative place for plants and community expression to flourish.

On Friday, April 10, community members are warmly invited to the Iris Griffith Centre to learn more and participate in the project. At 3 p.m. Gray will describe the project and participants will have the opportunity to work on their tile designs. This fun, family-friendly day will also feature an Easter Eggmonster hunt for the kids at 2 p.m. For more about the Iris Griffith Centre Living Mural project, see www.lagoonsociety.com.
