After a year of petitions, local government meetings, ice-side chats, a Pacific Coliseum scoreboard procurement and an impassioned bid, the Coast may get its answer.

The proponents behind bringing a Pacific Junior Hockey League team to the lower Sunshine Coast are making a "historic announcement" Tuesday.

The public and media are invited to the Gibsons & Area Community Centre at 7 p.m. on Aug. 1 for the announcement, according to a joint press release from the Sunshine Coast Junior Hockey Society and Coastal Sports & Entertainment Group.

The Coast groups presented their bid for a team based out of Gibsons to the league at the beginning of June but they were not allowed to disclose any more information until the league made an announcement.

Sunshine Coast Junior Hockey Society director of operations Rick Hopper wouldn't reveal to Coast Reporter what the announcement was but did say, "Pretty exciting times for hockey and the lower Coast for sure."
