Sunshine Coast RCMP continue to receive complaints in relation to "stunting" in Madeira Park, Pender Harbour, Egmont and Garden Bay.
Residents of the area areconcerned and frustratedwith squealing tires, reckless driving, and the roadways being marked up by awhat are clearly irresponsible drivers.
"We take this very seriously," said Cpl. Steve Chubey. "There are some in the community that feel this type of activity is a right of passage. First and foremost this is illegal activity that is putting the community at risk, and that is our primary focus."
Chubey said local officers have made this a priority and have formulated an actionplan that will be targeting those responsible.
"We are gathering intelligence on who is responsible for these burnouts," said Chubey. "Sunshine Coast Traffic Services will have zero tolerancefor those who are involved and has already taken the vehiclebelonging to one of the driversoff the road."
British Columbia's driving laws, specifically related to stunting, states that drivers or registered owners caught driving in such a manner can face severe fines, automatic driving prohibitions and vehicle impoundments. In more serious cases, a driver could face criminal charges, which could result in jail time.
RCMP are asking anyone with information concerning those responsible for stunting in their community to call 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or to call 9-1-1 to report any driving complaint. Information such as the suspects name, licence plate or description of the vehicle would assist the police in their investigation.
