The Conservation Officer Service (COS), with the assistance of Sunshine Coast RCMP is investigating a Gibsons resident for hunting a deer out of season in a Langdale residential area in late March.

According to conservation officer Dean Miller, one male black tail deer was found deceased 150 metres away from where it was shot.

"The individual who shot the deer apparently left the area before attempting to recover the deer," said Miller in a news release. "Public safety and hunter ethics charges are being considered related to the identified location of the shot and failing to retrieve the deer."

Miller said the local Coastal black tail deer population on the Sunshine Coast is managed in an effort to increase the current low populations.

"Hunting activities are primarily conducted in wilderness locations, away from populated areas and at times, designed to ensure impacts to the population are minimized," said Miller. "The retrieval of wildlife requirement is in an effort to reduce the suffering of all hunted animals."Anyone with any information about this or other violations is asked to call the COS report line (RAPP) at 1-877-952-7277.
