Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) directors voted at the Feb. 10 planning meeting to send out the regional affordable housing committee draft terms of reference to local municipalities for their input and hopeful participation in a memorandum of understanding to start the committee.
"I think what we're making an effort to do with this particular committee is make sure that it's kind of a collaborative partnership as opposed to the SCRD driving this, so it's really the rurals and munis working together," said West Howe Sound director Lee Turnbull.
South Pender water
Directors voted to send in an application for a non-farm use permit within the agricultural land reserve (ALR) in Pender Harbour to facilitate a water treatment plant and reservoir for the South Pender Harbour water service area.
The project is needed as there have been a number of boil water advisories over the years in Pender Harbour and the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority is now requiring an upgrade of the water treatment level in the area.
A federal and provincial grant for $4 million has been received for the project, but the special use of ALR lands must be OK'd by the Agricultural Land Commission before any work can take place.
