Everyday in British Columbia, individuals and organizations work to ensure thetechnologies we interact with at work and play are safe.The awards honourindividuals andorganizations committed to the safe installation, operation and maintenance oftechnical equipment. From electrical, boiler and gas systems, to elevators,railways, passengerropeways and amusement rides, these technical systems allplay important roles in our lives.

Presentedin the name of Her Honour, the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governorof BC, the awards recognize individuals and organizations for their outstandingcontribution totechnical safety and provide a unique opportunity for those inthe safety system to build relationships and share their expertise.

"Technology makes our lives better in manyways, but we need to have confidence that it will work safely," saidCatherine Roome, BCSA president and CEO. "AtBC Safety Authority, it is our jobtobuild confidence in technical safety by working with the women and men whodeliver safe technical systems every day in BC. These awards are one way we canhonour those who trulymake a difference."

Inpast years, BCSA has honoured three award recipients for lifetime, individualand organizational achievements. However, this year's awards will honourexcellence in each of BCSA's seventechnologies, as well as an award forsystems integration. This new format reflects BCSA's focus on recognizing thosewho promote safe practices across the technologies where they deliversafetyservices. The eight award categories are:

Excellence in electrical safety

Excellence in boiler, pressure vessel andrefrigeration safety

Excellence in gas safety

Excellence in elevating safety

Excellence in railway safety

Excellence in passenger ropeway safety

Excellence in amusement ride and devicesafety

Excellence in systems safety(multi-technology)
