Fundraising for the annual Cops for Cancer begins on Saturday with a unique event in Davis Bay.
Riders from the Sunshine Coast RCMP will be at the Davis Bay seawall near the pier from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 18.
Residents are asked to come out and help rescue this year's Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast riders, Const. Harrison Mohr and Const. Kyle Hrynyk, who have been marooned on the RCMP boat. Only your donations can save them now. There will also be a kids' colouring contest and more family fun events.
All funds raised support the Canadian Cancer Society and their quest to fund life-saving research and programs for children with cancer and their families.
This year's ride is Sept. 19 to 27.
AAP open house Sunday
The Sunshine Coast Regional District is partnering with the Town of Gibsons, District of Sechelt and the Islands Trust to develop a background report (stage one) of an agricultural area plan (AAP) for the Sunshine Coast.
The background report will include a land use inventory, market opportunities analysis, and statistical profile of the Sunshine Coast food system.
This AAP will include the geographical area from Port Mellon in West Howe Sound to Egmont in Pender Harbour, as well as Keats and Gambier Islands, the Town of Gibsons, Sechelt Indian Band and District of Sechelt.
Interested residents are invited to the first open house this Sunday, Aug. 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the District of Sechelt to help kick-start the project, learn about what's going on, provide feedback and meet the project team.
Light local refreshments will be provided.
