Christine Sharp went missing from St. Mary's Hospital on June 4 and this week Sunshine Coast RCMP are asking for the community's help to find the 30-year-old woman, described as mentally unstable.
"She was out on a day-pass and she was supposed to come back at her scheduled time," said Candace Sharp, explaining the day her sister Christine disappeared from the hospital. "She didn't show up so what the police did after maybe a day was put a warrant out for her arrest because she's mentally unstable, and then once they noticed that it's already been a few days it turned more into a missing person's report."
She said the family had hoped Christine would be found at her ex-boyfriend's house, but police surveillance showed no sign of her entering or exiting the home.
"Plus yesterday [her ex-boyfriend] let them do a walkthrough and there's absolutely no trace of her even being there," Candace told Coast Reporter on June 13.
She said that Christine had gone missing while on a day pass from the hospital before, but that she's always come back the next day, noting the family is very concerned.
This week Candace posted news of her missing sister on Facebook on the Sunshine Coast Buy and Sell page and within an hour there were dozens of Coasters commenting and sharing the information with their contacts.
In addition to the social media campaign, Candace plans to post flyers about Christine's disappearance around the Coast and her brother was expected to arrive from out of town on Thursday to help spread the word.
At press time there was some talk that Christine could have left the Coast for Vancouver Island, but Candace was skeptical, saying her sister left her phone and all of her personal effects at home.
"She does have a cell phone, but it's not on her. It's actually at my Mom's along with her makeup and her clothes so she's actually left town, if that's the case, without anything," she said.
The family is currently working with Christine's local bank to try to access her account information and see where she's spending, if she's using her debit card at all.
Candace notes Christine survives on welfare and she doesn't see how she could get far with the amount of money she has available.
Christine is described as a Caucasian woman, 5'6" tall and approximately 170 pounds. She has brown hair that is about chin-length.
"The RCMP is asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Christine to contact their local police agency or call 9-1-1," said a press release from Sunshine Coast media relations officer Steven Chubey.
