Under the guidance of executive director Ron Pepper, the 11-member Habitat board recently elected their 2011 executive and committee chairs.

The existing board welcomed seven new members who join in the fulfilling of the Habitat mission: "to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building housing and enabling home-ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty." This mission will be done, not only by the completion of the seven-duplex project in Wilson Creek, now well under way, but by expanding into other areas of the Sunshine Coast when affordable land and community support is made available.

The new board consists of Rick Harmer, chair; Laima van Turnhout, vice chair/secretary; Richard Melville, treasurer; Gwen Hawkins, past chair; and committee chairs Jack Carlson, Ken Croizier, Murray Drope, Joan Fallis, Dale Harvey, Doreen Henry and Jody Miles (Salerno).

Tele-workshop helps families

Planning is important in life, and especially for families dealing with the impact of Alzheimer's disease.

Caregivers may have to make health, financial and other personal decisions on behalf of their family members. That's why the non-profit Alzheimer Society of B.C. recommends creating a representation agreement - a legal document covering these issues.

Sechelt families can get the information they need to get started, during the Society's free tele-workshop on Thursday, April 28 at 7 p.m.

Entitled Understanding Representation Agreements, the tele-workshop features guest speaker Joanne Taylor, executive director of Nidus Personal Planning, Resource Centre and Registry. She will talk about the importance of future planning, explain what a representation agreement is and how to make one, and answer questions.

Pre-registration is required by April 25. Visit www.alzheimerbc.org or phone toll-free 1-866-396-2433.
