Working with British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association, Coca-Cola and Sogo Active have provided $170,000 for provincial and local organizations to support physical activity among today's youth.

In April alone, 23 local organizations representing numerous B.C. communities received nearly $10,000 to support activities such as floor hockey, basketball, block parties and dodge ball events - all with the common goal of motivating youth to be physically active. Sogo Active is encouraging community organizations to apply for grants to support end of the school year events and active summer programs.

Sogo Active is a $5 million, five-year national active living program sponsored by Coca-Cola Canada and created and managed by ParticipACTION, the national voice of physical activity and sport participation. Sogo Active works to inspire youth to be more active by providing the tools and funding for facilities, equipment, and resources needed to support physical activity.

In April, funding was given to community groups such asMayne Island Youth Fitness, Abbotsford Youth Commission, Killarney Secondary School and Raven Spirit Youth Program Society. Community groups that received grants hosted events that included a youth ball hockey tournament,Are You as Active as a Grade 5 event, gym fit and track and field program.

Sogo Active funding is available for youth and community host organizations to support active living challenges (eight weeks or longer) or one-time events. Organizations are encouraged to visit sogoactive.comto learn more about the grants and verify eligibility. Community host organizations and youth are eligible to receive up to $500 to support physical activity challenges or up to $250 to support an event.
