If you own a dog or consider yourself "nuts for mutts" come out to the inaugural Nuts for Mutts Dog Show at Cedar Creek Kennels this Sunday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Registration to enter dogs in the show starts at 10:30 a.m. There are categories for every mutt, including: looks most like owner, best senior, friendliest dog, best physically challenged, most ear-isistable ears, best kisser, best coat, best wag, most toy crazy, most vocal, best trick and best in show.

Cost to enter the show is $5 for two category entries or $10 for five category entries and there is a general entrance fee of $5 with all the money raised being divided equally between the local SPCA, Renaissance Animal Rescue Society, Happy Cat Haven, Gibsons Wildlife Rescue Centre and the Northwest Canadian Greyhound League.

Show organizer Cathrine Ann of Consumer Connection Inc. said she wanted to put on the event as a way to give back to the community.

"We sponsor a number of charitable events now, but I have four dogs, two of which are from our local SPCA, so I wanted to sponsor and promote an event just for the Coast that would bring children, adults, everyone and their dogs together to have a fun filled day. Raising ongoing awareness and money and support for some very hardworking and dedicated individuals who rely on all of us to help with their worthwhile causes is what it's all about too," Ann said.

At the show there will be ribbons awarded, a $1 barbecue, lots of giveaways and prizes as well as a free pet first aid class put on by Dr. Justin McLash from the Sunshine Coast Pet Hospital.

Professional dog show judge Tony Dibley will be on hand to judge the dogs as well as Marc Joncas of Consumer Connection Inc.

Ann encourages everyone to come out and enjoy the show this Sunday.

"This is a great chance to show everyone how fabulous your dog is as well as see these wonderful animals do what I think will be some amazing things," Ann added.
