Gilroy named new fire prevention inspector

Sechelt fire department announced Aug. 1 that Matt Gilroy has been named fire prevention inspector, commencing his new role at the beginning of July.

Gilroy will be working under assistant Fire Chief Trevor Pike performing annual fire inspections in the community.

Fire Chief Bill Higgs said he is pleased to bring Gilroy on board.

"His passion for the fire service and fire prevention program will be a strong asset," Higgs said.

Gilroy has been serving the community of Sechelt as a volunteer firefighter since 2004. He quickly proved to be an integral part of the team and became a lieutenant in 2008. He has taken numerous courses throughout his time at the Sechelt fire department and has recently completed his fire officer one certificate.

"With his eight years of experience, passion to learn and love of people, we are certain that he will quickly become an invaluable fire prevention inspector in our community," Higgs said.
