On Nov. 18, Sunshine Coast RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a car crashing into the Sunshine Coast Credit Union in Gibsons.
According to Cpl. Steve Chubey, the driver, a 70-year-old Gibsons resident, stated she was parked and was trying to slip on her shoe, had forgot to put the vehicle in park and accidentally pushed the accelerator. The vehicle jumped the curb, went down a flight of stairs and collided with the side of the Credit Union. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident.
Damage to the vehicle and building are estimated at over $18,000.
Boat fire in Garden Bay
On Nov. 21, RCMP, along with the Pender Harbour and Madeira Park fire departments, responded to a report of a boat fire off Panorama Drive in Garden Bay. "The boat was fully engulfed upon police arrival and despite efforts from the fire departments, the boat sunk due to extensive fire damage," said Chubey. "It was concluded that the fire was likely caused by a space heater and was deemed non-suspicious."
