Several vehicles in Gibsons burned in June 2024.

A fire that damaged four vehicles on O'Shea Road near School Road on June 12 originated from maintenance work on one of the vehicles, says the Gibsons & District Volunteer Fire Department.

Maintenance being performed on one of the vehicles damaged a fuel line, resulting in ignition, deputy fire chief Jordan Pratt said in an email.

The call for the fire came in at about 4:40 p.m. last Wednesday. Three of the vehicles saw "direct fire involvement," while a fourth had radiant heat damage. All were parked on the street and a nearby fence was damaged. "Overhaul of the vehicles and fence was conducted by fire crews to ensure extinguishment," said an SCRD email.

Twenty three firefighters attended and there were no injuries.

The fire department is reminding people to call 911 in case of emergency. In this case, some members of the public had driven to the fire hall to notify them of the fire.
