A Gibsons resident is reportedly one of three men charged in the 2011 gang slaying of Jonathan Bacon in Kelowna.
Michael Kerry Hunter Jones, 25, of Gibsons and two other men Jujhur Khun-Khun, 25, of Surrey and Jason Thomas McBride, 37, of North Vancouver have each been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder, police announced Feb. 25.
Sgt. Lindsey Houghton of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit announced the arrests during a news conference in Delta.
Bacon, a member of the Red Scorpions gang, died in a spray of bullets while sitting in an SUV outside Kelowna's Delta Grand hotel and casino in August 2011. Four other people inside the vehicle with Bacon, including Hells Angel Larry Amero, were also wounded in the attack, but Bacon was the only occupant to die from his injuries.
Police said Jones was arrested in Vancouver, Khun-Khun in Surrey and McBride in Toronto, where he had just moved, with about 100 officers participating in the arrests.
Bacon's murder has been tied to the late gangster Sukh Dhak, who was murdered in Burnaby last November. Police have said the retaliatory violence dates back to the October 2010 killing of Dhak's older brother Gurmit outside Metrotown Mall.
