Jim Conway is the new harbour manager at Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority (GLHA), taking over from Bill Oakford on July 1.
Conway had been the assistant manager at the marina since 2002.
“There’s a little more responsibility,” Conway said. “Technically the manager is responsible for everything. In that regard, before my job largely had to do with accounting. Now it’s accounting and everything else.”
Everything else includes managing all of the programs that are run out of the harbour. There is a commercial fishing program, a transient moorage program and a stopover program.
“Just making sure that everything we have set up runs smoothly,” Conway said.
Oakford, the previous manager, isn’t retiring but is scaling back his workload from full time to about 30 hours a week. Oakford was the harbour manager for 15 years.
GLHA president Terry Rhodes said it was a natural progression to make Conway the new manager.
“He’s been working as the assistant [manager] for so long, he has tremendous skills,” Rhodes said. “He has accountancy skills that we used when he was the assistant, and we will continue to use as the harbour manager.”
