The Sunshine Coast Conservation Association (SCCA) will hold its third annual fundraiser and celebration of conservation at the Seaside Centre on Nov. 25.
At 2 p.m. a free event will feature Cariboo North MLA and NDP Forestry Critic Bob Simpson, who will talk about the environment, the economy and the future of the coastal forest industry.
Simpson is an excellent public speaker and writer, a former high-school teacher, small business owner, forest products company manager and member of the provincial NDP executive. A question and answer session on forestry issues will follow. Everyone is welcome to come and learn more about how we can improve forestry in B.C.
At 7 p.m. the Green Gala will commence. Tickets are $10 at the door, at Talewind Books (Sechelt), Coast Books (Gibsons), Roberts Creek General Store, Harbour Insurance (Madeira Park) or from any SCCA director.
The Green Gala will feature live music with Gaetan Bergevin, Trudy Diening, Ken Dalgleish and friends. There will be a classy silent auction with art, vacation getaways and much more. Attendees will enjoy great finger foods, refreshments, displays and two spectacular slide shows: Salmon Jungle Journey, underwater salmon photography by Terry Brown, and Wild Mountain Spirit, the legacy of John Clarke, by Annette Clarke. There will also be a tribute to conservation elder John Hind-Smith and opportunities to renew SCCA memberships.
